The Presley Tyler House

The house features a photo exhibit spanning more than 100 years of life at Blackacre and contains brochures, maps, and an inventory of the plants and animals found at Blackacre.  Volunteer docents provide visitors with information about Blackacre’s history and the surrounding nature preserve.   Open Sundays 1-5 pm April through October with docents avaliable for guided tours.

Walking Trails

Explore the woodlands and meadows throughout the preserve on miles of beautiful trails.  (See Trail MapSorry, dogs are not permitted at Blackacre.  Smoking Prohibited.

Barn and Farm Animals

Visit the farm animals and tour the Appalachian-style, double-crib barn, which was built in the 1790s.  Blackacre is home to horses, cows and goats.  Come for a visit and meet our four-legged friends!

Springhouse

Tour the historic stone springhouse, which was built in the 1790s, and get a feel for life at an early settlement.

Smokehouse

Tour the brick smokehouse, which was originally built of logs.

On-Site Information

  • Informational Kiosks are located in the Visitors Parking Lot and at the Waterfall Trailhead near the Nature Center.  See Homestead Map.
  • Volunteer docents provide visitor information on Sundays from 1-5 pm April through October in the Presley Tyler Visitor’s Center.

Restrooms

Restrooms are available next to the Nature Center at the Waterfall Trailhead.  See Homestead Map

Parking

  • Handicap Parking is located  in Visitors Parking lot near Visitors Kiosk and, closer to Visitors Center, across from the garage behind the Presley Tyler Visitors Center.  See Homestead Map
  • Visitors wishing to explore the nature preserve and historic homestead should park in the “Visitors Parking Lot” located near the homestead.
  • School buses should park in the lot at the bend in the road called the “School Bus Parking Lot” and should NOT come back to the homestead since there is no place to turn around.
  • Visitors attending large special events will be directed to park in the “Visitors Parking Lot” or the “South Pasture” where the horses are normally kept.
  • ALL VISITORS ARE ADVISED THE GATE CLOSES AT DUSK.
